Stonks.
"In investing, what is comfortable is rarely profitable." — Robert Arnott
Early 2020 was a time of significant change. Socialising became a disarray of video conferences and many have seen sudden changes to their lifestyle. This trickled into the stock market too with new investors jumping in by the hour, volatile and unpredictable trends; it was clear there needed to be an easy way to understand the plight.
Stonks was a team project, designed and evaluated for Digital Media Studio, a capstone subject in Interaction Design major. The aim was to create a simple and robust solution to introduce zero-background users to the world of trading. Covering topics from trading to making sense of trendlines and charts.
I was mainly responsible for the UI/UX and front-end implementation among other aspects of the project.
The capstone project covered everything from ideation to user stories and creating lo-fi designs to polishing the minimum viable product (MVP).
The landing page utilised a common yet effective hero style homepage, with a call to action, prompting the user to begin their registration into the main app. This was the first proper experience I had with Bootstrap and while not required, the site was also designed with smaller footprint devices (mobile) in mind.
The registration process was designed with simplicity in mind, making the process as effortless as possible. The process is augmented with questions in order to determine the dashboard elements, based on the user’s preferences and experience before they reach it.
The MVP focuses on the beginner features, showcasing a simple portfolio performance graph and restricting the user to a selection of exchange traded funds (ETFs).
